Natural Slate Roof – DS766

Two properties, reroof in natural slate, new lead flashings around the chimney.

PROPERTY TYPE

Large detached cottage

Barn

COVERING TYPE

Natural slate

ADDITIONAL MATERIALS

Lead flashings, concrete ridge, wet verges

The two properties had slate roofs and needed reroofing. We removed and disposed of the old slate and battens. We installed a breathable membrane to both roofs along with new battens. The barns gable end was partly recemented to provide a better holding of the verge, and to make the verge straight, opposed to the kinks in the verge before. We chose a natural Spanish slate because of its gradient of grey and clean finish. We installed this slate to the roof covering, and flashed the chimneys in Code 4 lead. The red ridge was chosen to create a beautiful contrast to the dark slate. Cementwork was completed after on the ridge and verges.
